Billy Moran’s renowned three-year-old colt Tiger Attack proved unsurpassable once more at the Scottish Horse Show, lifting the supreme in-hand championship and Cuddy qualifier for the second year in succession.
“He was quite simply a league in front of the remainder of the championship competitors,” said Miss Jane Cooper, from Dorset, who was tasked with adjudicating from the centre of the Cuddy ring.
“He’s very correct, has good bone, fantastic movement and he’s just a real showman when he enters the arena.”
The three-year-old colt, which progressed from the Scottish Horse to stand as supreme Cuddy reserve at the Horse of the Year Show final last year, was produced for the show by Jerome Harforth and the Stanley Grange Show Team and was shown in the arena by James Crockford.
“He has his first batch of foals on the ground this year,” said Billy, who travelled to the show from Tyne and Wear to spectate alongside his wife Joanne.
They bred the colt, by Dolphin Supreme, out of another former Scottish Horse, Royal Highland and Cuddy finalist Tiger Lily.
“We showed him seven times as a foal alongside his mother, including at this showground and at the National Hunter Show, and he stood unbeaten,” added Billy.
As the reigning overall Future Event champion at Bramham, Tiger Attack will next year pursue a future under saddle.
“He’s got a cracking jump on him and we don’t want him to sour of the show ring he likes variety so we’re planning to aim him towards the four-year-old Burghley Young Event Horse series,” Billy said.
During the course of the Scottish this year, Tiger Attack stood top of both the performance horse in-hand and light horse in-hand sections Miss Cooper opted for a true Scottish crowd favourite when she drew Aileen Curle’s Highland Pony stallion, Harris of Mendick which had topped the in-hand mountain and moorland entry as her Cuddy reserve.
“I loved him from the moment he came into the ring,”she said.
Harris came to the Scottish Horse Show having stood reserve at NPS Scotland’s Summer Show at Strathallan. Standing supreme of the ridden entry was Sadie Osborne’s young Welsh section A mare Woodend Marigold, ably piloted by seven-year-old Bill Reeves.
Jack Cochrane, from Nottinghamshire, stepped in to judge this overall contest and he ultimately drew forward Bill Ireland’s Dales gelding Kilmannan Black Magic, ridden by Stuart Aston, as supreme reserve.
“Both were way out in front of the other champions and were very true to type,”said Mr Cochrane. “The supreme has outstanding conformation, with very clean and correct limbs.
“She also produced a faultless show.”
Recently a Great Yorkshire champion, Marigold, which was bought aged three, had her debut season under saddle in 2014 a year which saw her qualify for HOYS at NPS and ultimately finish in sixth in the championship line-up at Birmingham.
“The reserve was smart and workmanlike,” added Mr Cochrane of 13-year-old Black Magic.
The 2015 event saw organisers taking the show back to its “true home” at the Royal Highland Showground a move which afforded the event considerably more space and which seemed to prove popular with competitors.
“The Royal Highland Showground was for many years the home of the Scottish Horse Show,” said Scottish Horse Show chairman Tweetie Nimmo.
“It was held here during the ’60s and ’70s, which many of our older competitors and friends will remember fondly,”she added.
