A three-year-old called police then tried to bar their access to the flat in which he was being cared for in a bizarre late night incident in Aberfeldy was related to Perth Sheriff Court .

In an incident that threatened to spiral out of control, police were twice called to the Kenmore Street flat of Jacqueline Robertson as she was caring for the youngster after midnight on October 16.

The court was told how the toddler dialled 999, prompting the first visit, and officers were stunned when the youngster attempted to refuse them access.

When they made their way into the flat, they found Robertson (38) sitting in the living room drinking wine.

Depute fiscal Rebecca Kynaston said the accused told them the youngster had used her mobile phone and they were not needed.

She said, “Officers asked why the child was not in bed at that time of night and she said she was unable to put him to bed. It was obvious the accused had been drinking.”

However the police left the flat, only to receive another 999 call from the same number at 1am, this time from a woman claiming she needed assistance.

Ms Kynaston said officers again attended and advised Robertson to get herself and the child to bed.

“It was suggested that the fact the TV was on in his bedroom whilst he played a computer game would not help him get to sleep,” she said.

With Robertson becoming more “belligerent” the officer then visited Robertson’s mother in the next-door flat and suggested the child spend the night there.

Ms Kynaston said Robertson became “angry and upset” as police took the child away.

“The accused began to shout and swear at the officers and at that point she picked up a glass from the kitchen area and threw it towards a police constable. The glass hit the ground and smashed.”

Back-up was summoned and Robertson was arrested.

She pled guilty yesterday to assaulting a police officer in the execution of her duty by throwing a glass at her.

A solicitor for Robertson, who now lives in Dunkeld Road, said his client had been drinking wine and also suffers mental health difficulties.

She was ordered to return to court on February 14 when reports have been prepared.
