The first book written by a popular wild land campaigner and photographer will be republished as a lasting tribute.
Irvine Butterfield was known across Tayside and Fife for his publications, including The Magic Of The Munros, the royalties of which were used in the John Muir Trust’s appeal to buy a large part of Schiehallion.
Mr Butterfield died in May 2009, but as a way of paying homage to his memory his executor Roderick Manson has decided to republish his first book, Dibidil A Hebridean Adventure.
Telling the story of the restoration of a bothy on the isolated southeast coast of Rum in 1970, it was originally released in 1972 as a limited edition to raise money for the Mountain Bothies Association (MBA).
Although the poor technology available at the time meant that the quality wasn’t the best, a copy in mint condition can still set buyers back £60.
However, Mr Manson has joined up with David Robertson and John Mitchell from the Mountain Bothies Association to create a more up-to-date version.
The pictures are now in colour, having been scanned from the original colour slides Mr Butterfield left to the MBA, and there is additional material from a revisit in 1975.
The new book costs £8 and all profits will go to the MBA.To order a copy, send a cheque payable to Roderick Manson to 33 Cedar Avenue, Blairgowrie, Perthshire PH10 6TT.
