Dundee United defender Darren Dods fears his season is almost over.
Dods has suffered injury turmoil throughout this campaign after chipping a bone in his knee.
For months he was undergoing a rehabilitation programme centred on a belief he had cartilage trouble but it later emerged that a shard of bone had come off and was floating in his kneecap.
Even though the problem has now been treated, it seems likely he will only be back for the final week of the season.
“I was back at the start of the season and had a few games but then I felt it again and the doctors thought it was because of more cartilage trouble,” he said. “They did work on that but it was still not right and finally they discovered I had chipped a bit of bone off my kneecap and it had lodged at the back of the knee.
“It was difficult for them to spot but they eventually got to the bottom of it and it is fixed now.
“The trouble for me is I am still four weeks away from a scan to see how it has healed and five weeks away from going back to see the specialist.
“He should give me the all-clear then but I have been counting up and it means, even if he does, by the time I am ready to play it is going to be around the last week of the season.
“At most I will only get one or two games and that is disappointing.”
