Call out for more coats to help Dundee’s homeless this winter
ByThe Courier Reporter
A Dundee charity worker is urging locals to donate a coat to help the homeless.
Claire Doogan, 28, has collected more than 300 coats already to hand out to homeless and needy people throughout the city and is asking for more help.
She said: “I was inspired by a similar project I saw in London. I looked around and couldn’t see anything in Dundee that did the same.
“There wasn’t a single charity taking responsibility for clothing people through the winter.
“Council foodbanks can help distribute but they mainly help out with food.”
Claire is collecting coats and clothing until Friday December 5, at which point she will start to distribute the coats to foodbanks, soup kitchens and anyone referred to her.
Claire added: “Poverty in Scotland and the housing conditions are so bad. I didn’t realise just how bad it was.”
Many businesses have agreed to be collection points, including Brew Dog pub on Panmure Street.
