Three people were killed and two injured in another black weekend on the roads in Courier country.

In the first fatal crash 16-year-old pedestrian Ricky Flynn, of the Hilltown area of Dundee, died of head injuries after an accident at 1.30am on Saturday when he was involved in a collision with a taxi as he crossed the city’s Kingsway.

Yesterday floral tributes were laid near to the scene of the accident.

In the second tragedy another pedestrian and Dundee man, 32-year-old Neil Smith, of Thornbank Street, was found dead on the A90 at 4.30am on Saturday (full report here) after being involved in a collision with a vehicle near Kinfauns as he walked to a friend’s house after a night out in Perth.

The third man to die was an 18-year-old motorcyclist from Denny, Stirlingshire, who was in a collision with a car on a rural road in north-east Fife at 5.15pm on Saturday. He has not yet been named.

And another motorcyclist was taken to hospital on Sunday night following a collision in Leven.

The accident happened at 5.37pm in Waggon Road and involved the motorbike and a car. The ambulance service confirmed that the motorcyclist was taken to Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline, where he was treated for head injuries.

And an Angus man is battling serious injuries after being thrown from his car when it crashed on the A92 Arbroath to Montrose road at 8.15am on Saturday. The man, from Arbroath, suffered serious internal injuries in the smash.

Heartbroken friends and relatives visited the site of the Kingsway fatal accident yesterday to pay tribute to Ricky Flynn.

Ricky was placed on a life support machine after being rushed to Ninewells Hospital but he was pronounced dead on Saturday afternoon.

His family were too upset on Sunday to talk about the tragedy.

Ricky is believed to have been trying to cross the westbound carriageway near to the Cutty Sark public house at around 1.30am when he was in collision with a blue Citroen Xsara Picasso taxi.

The westbound carriageway of the Kingsway was closed for several hours to allow crash investigators to examine the scene and diversions were put in place until 6.20am.

Police confirmed that no one has been charged in connection with the incident.

The Fife motorcycle tragedy happened at 5.15pm on Saturday on the the B942 Colinsburgh to Pittenweem road near the entrance to a farm at Abercrombie.

The 18-year-old, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is understood that there was a head-on collision involving the teenager’s Yahama motorbike and a red Vauxhall Corsa.

The two occupants of the car were taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee but their injuries are not thought to be serious. Accident investigators worked at the scene until 11pm, when the road was re-opened.

Sergeant Derek Allan of Fife Constabulary’s road policing unit is co-ordinating the investigation and he said, “We would be keen to speak to any person who witnessed the crash or the movements of either vehicle prior to the incident.”

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal at Cupar first thing today.

In the Angus accident the 30-year-old, who has not been named, was thrown from his car when it crashed on the A92. He had been driving the black Vauxhall Astra northwards around 8.15am when the vehicle left the road near Courthill, Inverkeilor.

The driver suffered serious internal injuries after being thrown from the car. Emergency services rushed to the scene and the man was taken to Ninewells Hospital, where his condition has been reported as stable.
