Dundee boss hails players’ winning mentality

Dundees unbeaten start to the season has the dressing room buzzing, according to boss Paul Hartley.
Dundees unbeaten start to the season has the dressing room buzzing, according to boss Paul Hartley.

Dundee boss Paul Hartley says his side’s unbeaten start to the season has given his players the belief they can win every game, no matter who the opposition are.

The Dark Blues have three wins and four draws to their names so far, attracting plaudits for their attacking style of play, including praise from national boss Gordon Strachan.

Hartley admits confidence levels within the Dens dressing room are high and his players are determined to keep their run going, starting at St Johnstone on Saturday.

He said: “The lads are enjoying not getting beat and that’s a key thing in football. When that happens, you get confidence from it.

“I think they are enjoying each game we approach and there is a belief that we can win every one. That’s why they are so confident now.

“We have a good dressing room with tons of experience. They do not want to get beat, that’s for sure. I think everyone is enjoying how we have started the season.”

Hartley acknowledged that the St Johnstone game heralds the start of what will be a hectic month for the Dark Blues.

The trip to Perth is followed by the derby double-header with United in league and cup followed by a lengthy trip to Dingwall to play a Ross County side under the new management team of Jim McIntyre and Billy Dodds.

He said: “The lads have had a break but they are raring to go again.

“It is a big month for us. We have a tough game at St Johnstone but we will take a big crowd with us and then the two derbies followed by Ross County.

“But I think the city is vibrant just now in terms of both teams.

“There is a big demand for tickets for the game at Perth from our fans and the match against United here is a sell-out. So I think the expectation levels are rising.”
