Dundee-born forward Tristan Harper sent Fife Flyers fans home to think again when he slotted the game winner as Braehead Clan came from behind to earn a 4-3 victory in a thriller in Glasgow.

Harper, a former Dundee Stars player, slotted home with less than 10 minutes left of a bruising battle in front of over 3,000 fans.

Scott Fleming netted a consolation third for Fife three minutes later but the Purple Army, deprived of hockey for five weeks as their team has been on the road, celebrated.

Earlier, Danny Stewart, Fife’s associate player/coach, wanted his men to come out hard and silence the home fans.

The Purple Army were stunned when Ned Lukacevic fired the visitors ahead from a position on the back post. Chris Auger and Matt Reber, restored to the side after missing the last two weekends with concussion, set up the strike after 13 minutes.

The goal came on the power play with Clan defenceman Zack Fitzgerald in the sin bin for roughing.

Clan were back on level terms just over three minutes later, also on the power play. Scott Pitt did the damage with a wrist shot from the right wing to beat Fife netminder Kevin Regan. Derek Roehl and Scott Aarssen assisted.

Clan outshot their visitors 17-13 in the opening session and went ahead through Neil Trimm after six minutes of the middle session, Ryan Kavanagh’s shot rebounding to Trimm who made no mistake.

Fife were back on level terms two minutes later when Jamie Milam netted, his shot from the blue line being deflected.

Pitt scored his second nine minutes after that, also on the power play, to make it 3-2 and 26-year-old Harper fired home a fourth, with Matt Keith assisting, in the 51st minute.

Fleming’s strike, with Lukacevic and Reber assisting, came after 53 min 23 sec when Clan had Fitzgerald in the sin bin for tripping.
