Dundee boss Paul Hartley has revealed that skipper Kevin Thomson and striker Greg Stewart are facing a race against time to recover from injury to face Hamilton on Saturday.

Both had to come off during the game against Inverness last weekend.

Stewart, who had opened the scoring for what was his eighth goal of the campaign, hurt his knee and foot in a clash with an opponent, while Thomson, who has only recently returned to the Dark Blues starting XI after recovering from a long-term calf problem, pulled up in the second half.

Hartley revealed: “Thommo had a scan today and he has a slight hamstring strain.

“It is not too bad and he might make the weekend. We will wait and see how he is.

“Greg is a lot better. He suffered a clash of knees and he also got a sore one on his foot.

“He will probably be given until the last minute.

“Paul McGowan started running today which was good news.

“Kyle Letheren has been off the last couple of days because of illness and Peter MacDonald is still likely to be out for another few weeks.

“However, Iain Davidson, who was suspended for the Inverness game, has trained this week and is fine.”

The loss of either Stewart or Thomson would be a big blow to Dundee with Hartley acknowledging that the team had been disrupted when they had to leave the field on Saturday.

He said: “I thought Thommo was excellent against Inverness.

“As well as his passing, his fitness looked a lot better also.

“I think the 90 minutes against Aberdeen helped him. He’s a key player for us.

“When both him and Greg had to come off last weekend, it sort of upset our team a wee bit.”

Meanwhile, Hartley revealed that midfielder Dylan Carreiro will not be extending his loan stay with League Two leaders Arbroath.

The 19-year-old Canadian, who has recently been called up to his nation’s senior squad, has been a key player for the Red Lichties and their promotion push.

He scored a cracking solo goal for Arbroath at the weekend and Hartley believes that now is the right time for him to come back to Dens to push for a first-team spot with the Dark Blues.

The manager added: “Dylan is coming back. He’s had a good period at Arbroath where he’s learned the game a little bit more.

“Overall, he’s done well. When he comes back, we will look for him to push on for a first-team place.

“I think his last game for Arbroath is this weekend.

“We just needed to give him experience of the Scottish game as he’d never played here before.

“I feel playing in League Two will be beneficial for him in the long-run.”
