Perth and Kinross Council considering monthly bin collections

Radical new plans to introduce once-a-month bin collections are being considered by Perth and Kinross Council.
The controversial move is part of a bid to force residents to recycle more as the local authority struggles to meet Scottish Government targets.
A 12-month trial could be rolled out to 5,000 homes in Auchterarder and the Oakbank and western edge areas of Perth as early as October.
Similar proposals have previously been discussed by other councils in Scotland and were subsequently axed after fears were raised about spreading disease and encouraging rats.
A report by Perth and Kinross Council’s environmental services claims general waste bins could be collected less frequently “with no detriment to most householders”.
Alternatively, the fortnightly collection could be retained but with significantly smaller bins the option preferred by council officers.
