A Fife biker took his final journey by trike.
Kirkcaldy man Graham McHattie loved bikes, so when he lost his life to cancer his devoted wife Pauline thought the appropriate way for everyone to pay their last respects was to organise a biker’s funeral, complete with a trike hearse.
Mrs McHattie said: “We had quite a few of his biker mates to escort him and we organised for a hearse trike.
“When he was younger, he was really into his bikes. He wasn’t out on them so often in recent years, but bikes have always been one of his passions.”
Monday’s funeral, held at Kirkcaldy Crematorium, was also awash with purple, the colour designated to pancreatic cancer.
Mr McHattie, 61, who worked in the oil industry, passed away due to pancreatic cancer, the same condition which claimed the life of his mother 22 years ago.
The double tragedy has spurred Mrs McHattie on to work to raise awareness of the condition while raising funds.
“I feel I must do something to highlight the pancreatic cancer cause as this vile condition has now taken two members of my family.”
She said it was “the silent killer” and that survival rates for this form of the disease had barely changed in the last 40 years.
“I am going to be doing quite a lot of awareness-raising work and fundraising. I wanted to do something, to help as many people as I can,” she added.
