Dundee chairman Bill Colvin admitted today that while he is impressed with the club’s season ticket sales so far, he would still like to see many more of the club’s fans commit for next season.
Colvin arrived at the Dark Blues’ Budapest training base to see the facilities for himself, and also to meet Paul Hartley’s nine new summer singings for the first time.
Speaking at the Globall centre on the outskirts of the city, he said he believes 1,000 more tickets is a realistic target, especially after seeing how many packed into Dens on the final day of last season to witness Dundee win promotion at Hamilton’s expense.
He said: “I would like season tickets to be a wee bit higher. I think we are up to about 3,500. Ideally, I would like to get up to about 4,500.
“The fact we had 10,600 Dundee fans turn up on the last day with that atmosphere . . .
“At the time, I did not know what was happening with Hamilton.
“It was funny because in the last five minutes I heard somebody behind me say they had scored eight.
“I thought hang on a minute, this isn’t right!
“I am glad I didn’t know until right at the end. I have had heart problems and it wouldn’t have helped my heart if I’d known.
“That day will live with me forever. My wife and I had a great day. It was very emotional.
“That and the player of the year dinner the following night made it an incredible weekend.
“That was me repaid in spades that weekend and I think I floated home, I didn’t fly back to London.”
