Awards don’t interest St Johnstone

Other clubs can count their award nominations.

But St Johnstone will be more than happy totting up their Europa League campaigns, according to defender Tam Scobbie.

The Perth side have gone past Dundee United into fourth in the Premiership.

And a win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle at McDiarmid Park this afternoon will cut the gap to the third-placed Highlanders back to just one point.

Boss Tommy Wright may have missed out on a nomination for manager of the year in midweek, but Scobbie knows that team success is all that matters to the Northern Irishman.

And the same goes for his players.

“I think if you compare the budgets our manager here has done another tremendous job,” said the former Falkirk man.

“We can still get into Europe and you’d have thought that would have put him in with a shout.

“He’s not on the list but I don’t think it will bother him one bit. He is focused on the club. He isn’t bothered about accolades for himself.

“If he can get Saints into Europe for another year I’m sure that would be bigger than him being manager of the year.

“At this club we are used to going under the radar. We don’t get the profile many clubs get but that’s the way we like it from the top down.

“We prefer to go about our business quietly. We know we are a good side. We like over- achieving and third or fourth would be massive for us.

“People thought top six would be beyond us, but we can go higher.”
