Fife’s finest will be catch of the day for Crail Food Festival

The aroma of fine food will lure thousands of visitors to an East Neuk harbour this weekend.

Crail Food Festival promises a banquet for food and drink lovers from Friday to Sunday.

Last year the event drew 5,000 people and this year it has been extended from two to three days.

Final preparations are under way for the festivities, which will include a chocolate larder, a series of street food pop-ups and a producers’ market.

Several top chefs, including MasterChef winner Jamie Scott, of Rocca St Andrews, and Michelin-starred Geoffrey Smeddle, will demonstrate their skills.

The festival is in its fifth year and event manager Graham Anderson said some new companies have joined some of Fife’s favourite producers on the line-up.

He said: “We would like everyone to come along and find out what’s great about our local produce. As Scotland celebrates the Year of Food and Drink, the Crail Food Festival is truly offering a banquet for people of all ages.”

More than 80 food and drink firms will take part and events include a food and drink emporium, a cookery theatre, workshops and food-themed activities for children, including biscuit-icing. Sunday will see the harbour festival, when shellfish, smokies and a hog roast will be washed down with craft beer and homemade lemonade.
