Montrose boss Paul Hegarty has paid tribute to the big contribution made by two players who have barely kicked a ball for the club this season skipper Paul Watson and Ross McCord.
The club captain last played for the Gable Endies back in August against Annan but has not featured since because of a pelvic problem while McCord suffered a serious knee injury during the Scottish Cup loss to Lothian Vale at the start of November.
Both are battling their way back to fitness but at the same time they have been making an invaluable contribution in the Montrose dressing-room, with their manager acknowledging just how much he appreciates the influence they are having, especially on the younger players in the squad.
Hegarty said: “I really must make special mention of our captain Paul Watson and Ross McCord who have been out injured almost all season.
“When I was a player, I knew how difficult it was to sit in the stands watching when you were injured but they have been at every one of our games home and away supporting the lads.
“They have also been great in the dressing-room and while both are naturally frustrated about being out for so long, they are always encouraging the rest of the players, especially the younger lads.
“That is something John Holt (assistant boss) and I really appreciate.
“To be fair, there are a whole host of players such as Terry Masson, Ross Campbell, Gary Fraser, Chris Templeman and Andy Steeves who are different class and excellent ambassadors for Montrose.
“Hopefully, we can keep the nucleus of this squad together and try to build on things so it will be onwards and upwards for the football club.”
