Talks aimed at resolving Glenshee skiers’ travel complaints

There are new efforts to ensure skiers can enjoy the snow cover at Glenshee.
There are new efforts to ensure skiers can enjoy the snow cover at Glenshee.

The difficulties skiers have faced getting to and from Glenshee in recent weeks and communication regarding road closures are to be looked at.

Councillor Caroline Shiers is organising a meeting between police, Perth and Kinross Council and the ski operators in an effort to resolve various issues.

“The big problem is getting the message over about the road closure not so much the closure but the opening,” said Graham McCabe, managing director at Glenshee Ski Centre.

“A lot of our customers will be coming up from the central belt and approaching Perth on the A9 or M90 and the variable message signs on the motorway are saying the road is closed and then they arrive at Glenshee to find the road is open.

“It’s down to the fact that the messages are put up when the snow gates are closed but there’s nothing to say that they are about to be opened, the snowploughs are working away. It puts out the wrong message to the people coming up from the south.

“It’s very annoying for us because the last thing we need during ‘harvest time’ is for people to be put off coming here.”

Other people have complained that they have had to take long detours to get home from Glenshee after being told of road closures, only to discover they later reopened.
