Stark’s Park to host Auld Enemy Victory Shield clash

Stark’s Park in Kirkcaldy has been selected to host this year’s Victory Shield match between Scotland and England under-16s in November.

It is the first time the home of Raith Rovers has been chosen as the venue for the visit of the Auld Enemy and the fixture, which will be shown on Sky Sports, has been pencilled in for Friday November 29, with a 7.35pm kick-off.

The match will be Scotland’s final game of the home nations tournament and the only one on home soil following matches against Northern Ireland on Thursday October 17, and Wales on Thursday October 31.

Last year Scotland lost 1-0 to England at the Pirelli Stadium in Burton-upon-Trent in the same fixture.

Raith chief executive Eric Drysdale hopes a bumper crowd will pack into Stark’s Park for the clash, following the successful hosting of Scotland under-16s 3-1 win over Italy in Kirkcaldy earlier this month.

“Everyone at Raith Rovers is delighted that Stark’s Park has been chosen to host this prestigious fixture,” he said.

“We look forward to welcoming the cream of Scottish and English young talent to Kirkcaldy in November, where I am sure they will enjoy demonstrating their skills on our highly regarded playing surface.”

His comments were echoed by under-16 coach Scott Booth.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to bringing this group of players to Stark’s Park. Scotland teams are always well supported in Fife and a Scotland/England match always has a special quality to it.

“This will be the last match of the competition and there’s no better way to round off a Victory Shield campaign.”
