Drug user thought the world was ending and ran into street naked

A “bad trip” on LSD ended with a hysterical man assaulting a police officer then running into the street with no clothes on, in front of children waiting for their school bus.

A concerned neighbour contacted the police after hearing Wake shouting and screaming in his home, Dunfermline Sheriff Court was told.

The court heard Wake had taken LSD on top of alcohol and believed that “the world had come to an end”.

Wake, 27, of Main Street, Crossgates, admitted that on January 13 at his home, he assaulted a police constable by punching him on the head.

He also admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by running into the street naked, shouting, screaming and behaving in an aggressive manner.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said a neighbour had contacted the police at around 7.30am because of the noise being caused by Wake.

When officers arrived, Wake “answered the door naked and was shouting incoherently,” continued the depute.

“Police went inside and found his home had been ransacked a TV had been knocked over, there was broken glass from a mirror, spray from blood and vomit on the floor.”

Wake then ran outside still naked and punched one of the officers before eventually being caught and taken back inside.

“At the time the locus was busy with schoolchildren and morning commuters waiting at a bus stop. Photographs were taken and there was a lot of social media attention with images posted on Facebook and Instagram,” added Ms Yousaf.

Defence solicitor Ian Beatson said his client had been drinking the night before and believes he must have taken LSD when intoxicated.

“He suffered from a bad trip so much so that at one point he locked himself in the bathroom. He thought he was in a capsule and that the world had ended,” Mr Beatson went on.

Mr Beatson said his client could lose his job because of the offences.

Sheriff Craig McSherry called for reports and Wake will be sentenced on March 16.
