Brechin boss Ray McKinnon wary of wounded Pars

Saturday’s 5-1 thrashing at league leaders Stranraer was Dunfermline’s third defeat in a row, a sequence of results that has seen them slip to sixth in the table, 13 points behind the table toppers.

Despite that, Brechin boss Ray McKinnon insists he still regards the Pars as genuine title contenders and as such will be wary when John Potter’s side arrive for tonight’s match at the Glebe.

The City manager also knows that the full-timers of Dunfermline will have revenge on their minds after Brechin secured a valuable three points at East End Park a week ago, thanks to a solitary Alan Trouten goal.

However, the Angus side made it an incredible 15 games unbeaten in the league with a 2-1 victory over Stenhousemuir at the weekend that saw them move third top and McKinnon is determined they will continue their good run tonight.

He said: “It turned out to be a really tough game on Saturday.

“Bobby Barr was unavailable while Darren McCormack was missing with a dead leg so the squad was really stretched.

“We suffered another blow when they scored after just three minutes.

“However, that actually seemed to help us focus and realise we were really in a game.

“We then equalised when we were down to 10 men with Paul McLean off the field having his head stitched.

“He then came back on and scored the winner.

“I thought playing Tuesday/Saturday would take its toll but we looked strong as the game came to a close and it was a great performance and result.

“We now have another big match against Dunfermline to look forward to.

“McCormack is a major doubt and we will have to monitor a few of the other lads who are carrying knocks and niggles.

“There is obviously a lot at stake for both sides and equal pressure.

“I still see Dunfermline as title contenders. They have a massive squad and could make 10 changes if they wanted to.

“They will want to make up for us winning at their place and losing 5-1 to Stranraer on Saturday will have hurt their pride. They will be out to make amends immediately.

“However, we are 15 games unbeaten and we will look to extend that against the Pars.”
