Dundee to launch appeal against Scott Bain derby red card

Courier Sport understands that Dundee will appeal against the red card shown to keeper Scott Bain in Sunday’s dramatic derby.

The Dark Blues are convinced the goalie should not have been sent off at the start of the second half of the game at Tannadice.

Bain who is currently away with the Scotland squad that will play the Czech Republic in Prague brought down United striker Billy Mckay as he broke into his penalty area with referee Steven McLean awarding a spot-kick and flashing a red card at the keeper.

Now though, having reviewed video evidence, Dundee believe Bain should not have received his marching orders for stopping a clear scoring opportunity as Mckay’s last touch took the ball away from goal and Dark Blues defender Kevin Holt was covering in any case.

The club will gather all the necessary evidence this week before presenting their appeal to the SFA.

Dundee are already set to be without suspended skipper Gary Harkins for their crunch clash with Ross County on April 2 and the last thing they want is to be denied the services of another key player in Bain as they look to secure a top-six finish for the second season in succession.
