A Dundee conference will this weekend explore the question of whether there is more to politics than parties and elections with a series of events.
Saturday will see a host of speakers gather at the Bonar Hall to discuss the issues which are affecting voters ahead of May’s general election.
One of the conference organisers, Duncan McCabe, said: “Politics, for a short time in 2014, belonged to the people.
“This national conversation shouldn’t now be allowed to degenerate into the low-level of most election debates, polarising complex issues into position statements and soundbites, putting the politicians back in charge of the agenda.”
In addition to workshops on subjects ranging from gender to trade unions, the conference will hear speakers from radical United Kingdom thinktanks, the New Economics Foundation and Common Weal, as well as representatives of Syriza Scotland.
Author and broadcaster Lesley Riddoch will also contribute, as will playwright Alan Bissett.
