Brechin boss Ray McKinnon determined to secure play-off place with victory

Brechin are just one point away from securing a promotion play-off place but manager Ray McKinnon insists his side will be going all out to clinch a victory at Ochilview against Stenhousemuir this afternoon rather than attempt to draw the game.

City currently sit in fourth spot in the League One table six points ahead of Airdrie with just two matches of the normal season remaining.

The Diamonds travel up to Peterhead this afternoon knowing they have no margin for error if they hope to pip Brechin to the last play-off spot.

However, the Glebe gaffer insists that he will be fully focused on what his players are doing at Stenhousemuir and not what is happening at Balmoor.

McKinnon said: “We know a draw will be enough to get us into the play-offs but that’s not how we will be looking at it.

“We will approach the game the way we do any other and try to win it.

“Stenny are a hard side to beat and they are battling for their lives.

“However, we have done well against them so far this season and we are showing some good form at the moment so we will travel in confident frame of mind and determined to get over the finishing line.

“I will not be interested in what is happening with Airdrie, I will be fully focused on what our lads are doing in our game.”

Earlier this week, Brechin’s top scorer Alan Trouten was named as one of the nominees for the PFA Scotland League One Player of the Year Award.

McKinnon admitted that he is delighted the 29-year-old has received this recognition from his peers.

He said: “I am over the moon for Trouts.

“Considering he has missed a lot of the season through injury, it is a tremendous achievement to be nominated.

“He has also managed to score 16 goals despite missing out on so many games and the nomination shows the high regard he is held in by his fellow pros.

“Trouts is right up there with the best in the league.”

Brechin will again be without Gerry McLauchlan who is still recovering from a calf injury.
