Naked man hid in ex-partner’s bed after copying her house key

Perth Sheriff Court.

A jilted lover hid naked in his former partner’s bed after using a copy of her key to sneak into her Perth home.

Alan Kettles, 55, admitted having the key cut in secret so he could enter her home uninvited.

His 56-year-old former partner told Perth Sheriff Court that she was shocked when she returned home on a Sunday morning to find him lying naked in wait for her.

Kettles had initially denied the allegation but changed his plea after the woman gave evidence at his trial on Monday.

She said she had known Kettles for nearly seven years and had chosen to end their on-off relationship in May last year.

Kettles refused to accept her decision, however.

The woman revealed that she placed sticky tape on the edges of her kitchen door to see if Kettles had entered her house using his own key.

She said that when she returned home on Sunday May 25 the tape had not moved and everything seemed normal.

She said: “I went upstairs thinking everything was OK.

“The bedroom door was slightly ajar. I pushed the door open and found Alan Kettles naked in my bed.

“I got a shock. He was sitting upright and the duvet cover was down so I could see his bare chest.

“I screamed at him to get up and get dressed and give me my keys. When he got up he was fully naked. I was angry at him.

“He took a key off of his key ring and gave me the key.”

Kettles, a prisoner at Perth, admitted that between May 22 and 26 2014 he caused his former girlfriend fear and alarm by taking her key and having it copied without her consent.

He also admitted gaining unlawful access to her home using the copy key and entering her bedroom while she was in bed.

He further admitted entering her bedroom, removing his clothes, entering her bed and awaiting her arrival home.

Kettles was remanded in custody and Sheriff Fiona Tait deferred sentence in the case until March 30 for the preparation of social background reports.
