Female police officer faces trial accused of threat to kill woman

Forfar Sheriff Court.
Forfar Sheriff Court.

A Tayside police officer is to face trial in March over allegations she threatened to kill another woman.

Paula Jane Wales is accused of acting in an aggressive manner at a house in Grange Road, Monifieth and kicking a door there.

The charge also states she threatened to kill a woman.

Wales, 40, of Monifieth, did not appear at Forfar Sheriff Court on Thursday, her attendance at the diet having previously been excused by the court.

The charge alleges that on July 3 this year in Grange Road, Wales behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, shouted, swore, acted in an aggressive and abusive manner, repeatedly struck and kicked a door there, uttered threats of violence and uttered threats to kill Tracy Joan Christie, c/o the Police Service of Scotland, Dundee.

She had previously tendered a not guilty plea and trial was originally set down for next month, but that date will not now proceed.

Solicitor Michael Boyd, on behalf of Wales’ instructing agents, said that difficulties had been encountered in contacting an essential defence witness currently working overseas and efforts were continuing in that regard.

He said the defence is also still awaiting some disclosure in relation to the case, adding further that the accused’s solicitors had also recently taken receipt of medical information from their client who has been assisting in the care of a relative.

Trial was set for March 8 and the case will call again at an intermediate diet on February 9.
