It was, perhaps, not quite what the Queen had bargained for.

Well known for her love of all things equine, she was hardly going to pass up the opportunity to greet regimental drum horse Talavera during her trip to Leuchars today.

Her Majesty was certainly happy to see the horse and the feeling was clearly mutual.

A delighted Talavera was only too happy to snap up a proffered treat, slurping it up somewhat enthusiastically and leaving Her Majesty to contend with a fair old dollop of horse saliva.

Luckily, Her Majesty is ever-prepared and skilfully wiped it away before carrying on with the visit.
