Dundee United waiting to see if four key men will make derby

Dundee United face an anxious wait to see if no fewer than four key players are fit for the derby.

The Tangerines have fielded three different goalkeepers in their last three matches so they are desperate to have top-choice Eiji Kawashima available to face Dundee at Tannadice on Sunday.

The Japanese international has been nursing a thigh problem and he is not the only one who will be given right up to kick-off time to prove his fitness.

Guy Demel has a hamstring strain, Paul Paton picked up a knock in Friday’s loss at Motherwell, while Callum Morris was also injured on his comeback at Fir Park.

United boss Mixu Paatelainen addressed the Kawashima situation first, saying: “It will be touch and go as regards whether he will be fit but we want to give him every chance.

“The same goes for Guy Demel are there are a few other ones as well.

“Paul Paton got a heavy knock and Callum Morris also took a sore one against Motherwell.

“The schedule recently has been pretty demanding and there are quite a few knocks.

“I guess the good thing is that it’s a derby match coming up and from past experience I know that players report fit and well whenever there is a match like that to play!”
