VIDEO: Racers pay poignant rolling tribute to Angus racer Andy Lawson

Fellow racers have paid a poignant rolling tribute to Angus motorcyclist Andy Lawson at one of the circuits where he tasted championship success.

Over 100 bikes in the ThundersportGB series performed a lap of honour for the popular Arbroath 25-year-old, who lost his life last month while competing in the Ulster Grand Prix.

In the wake of the tragedy a huge convoy of motorcyclists from all over Scotland and beyond accompanied Andy on his final homecoming to Angus, following the family race van bearing his body the length of the A92 from Dundee to Arbroath, where it was met by a large roadside crowd of friends and wellwishers.

The young engineer was rated as one of the brightest prospects in the high-speed world of road racing and the latest tribute was held at the Anglesey circuit in Wales, where the father-of-two was a hugely popular and highly-rated figure in the paddock.

He secured the ThundersportGB Minitwin championship there in 2010, following it up with the Thundersport 500 crown the following year.

A video tribute of the lap of honour also records how Andy more than fulfilled his ambition of racing over the legendary Isle of Man TT course by three times featuring on the podium of the Junior Manx Grand Prix, including taking the winner’s laurels in 2014.

Hundreds of mourners attended his funeral service in Arbroath and the race commentary from that Junior Manx GP career highlight was played as the young racer was carried to his grave in a motorcycle hearse.
