More headaches for motorists on M90 with partial closure over next two weeks

Drivers are facing more disruption on the M90.
Drivers are facing more disruption on the M90.

A £375,000 road improvement project will see a busy motorway partially closed for two weeks.

A second set of road maintenance improvements is scheduled to take place on the M90 near Kinross during November.

Following on from the first phase of carriageway improvements in October, the new phase of works carried out over a 1.3km stretch of the concrete carriageway.

From tomorrow, resurfacing and maintenance works on the northbound carriageway between Junction 6, Kinross, and Junction 7, Milnathort, will be carried out to repair and improve the road surface.

The stretch of road is used by almost 30,000 vehicles a day and the improvements will “considerably” enhance the safety of the road at this location.

During the improvements a contraflow will be in place for the safety of the workforce and for motorists.

Andy Thompson, Bear Scotland’s north east representative, said: “This £375,000 investment from Transport Scotland will allow us to carry out maintenance works to ensure our network continues to operate at the highest standard.

“We encourage motorists to plan their journey in advance and check the Traffic Scotland website before setting out.”

The works will be carried out by BEAR Scotland and have been planned in consultation with Police Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council and Transport Scotland.

The project will be the latest disruption on the motorway, which has undergone several upgrades in the last year.

In January a £625,000 project began.

The northbound slip road at junction six was resurfaced, resulting in a four-day closure.

At the same time safety barriers at Bridge of Earn were upgraded and maintenance was carried out on the Friarton Bridge.

In March the second phase saw works carried out at Glenfarg footbridge.

The road was reduced to a single carridgeway in both directions for two weeks.

In September a £400,000 revamp of the Craigend interchange was carried out.

Entire sliproads were closed for weeks at a time to allow resurfacing to be carried out.

The works also involved road surface improvements, the installation of innovative LED road studs and traffic sign upgrading.
