Missing Susan Reid: family still hoping for return almost a month on

Susan Reid.
Susan Reid.

A UK-wide search for missing Newport woman Susan Reid has so far drawn a blank almost four weeks after her disappearance.

Mrs Reid was last in touch with her family on Tuesday January 21.

Helicopter and specialist dive teams have already scoured the Taybridgehead area without success and inquiries in the Aberdeen area, where Susan has relatives, have also proved unsuccessful.

Police confirmed they have widened their search for Mrs Reid to Cumbria and west Wales.

The 56-year-old Dundee University librarian has holidayed in the Cumbria and Aberystwyth areas and police are appealing through local media there for any possible sightings.

Meanwhile Susan’s sister Lesley Coull, who lives near Aberdeen, has been using social media in the hope that someone has seen Susan or that Susan herself will see her posts and respond.

Last week Lesley wrote a poignant message on her Facebook page.

It read: ‘Susan…if you are somewhere, somehow reading this….please get in touch. We all miss you so much, there are no words. Our lives stopped the day you went missing, and will never be the same again until you return to us. Whatever has happened…we will sort it out for you.

‘I miss you Sis. I need you Susan, my wise, funny, beautiful, kind big sister. Our family is incomplete without you. Come home. We love you’ x.”

The post attracted dozens of messages of support and hundreds of shares.

Then on Friday Valentine’s Day Lesley posted: “And now these three remain Faith Hope and Love. But the greatest of these is Love”.

A friend replied: “As long as we have hope, anything is possible.”

Mrs Reid is described as 5ft 7in tall, of slim build with short fair/blonde hair.

Her disappearance has been described as out of character by her family, who last week issued a plea for information through Police Scotland.

Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or the charity Missing People by calling or texting on 116 000.
