Dundee family in shock after thieves target their home

A woman has spoken of her shock after thieves stole her family’s two vehicles and robbed their house.

The culprits broke into the Clatto Woods Place home of Gwen Davidson, 41, in the early hours of Thursday while she and her family Brian Spiers, 26, Connor Downs, 15, and seven-year-old Katie Spiers were fast asleep.

Among other things, they made off with a burgundy BMW 318 estate and a red Ford Transit used by Brian in his job as a tiler and even stole milk from the front step.

Gwen, a care attendant, said: “We got up at around 8am as normal to get the kids ready for school, and I noticed the front door was open.

“When I had a look outside, I realised what had happened as the car and the van were gone. They even took the milk from the front step.”

Gwen and her daughter Katie had been sleeping in the downstairs living room when the thieves targeted the house.

She said: “It’s scary. My daughter had been unwell the night before and I told her we could watch cartoons until she fell asleep so we made a bed on the sofa and slept there.”

She said the robbery will have a huge impact on her family.

Brian’s Makita tools were in the Transit along with a Makita site radio and paperwork.

“It’s awful because neither Brian and I can work as a result of this,” Gwen said.

“All his tools were in the van his life.

“He will lose contracts because of this and after the effects of Muirfield going under, it has been a tough time and the phone has only just started ringing again.”

Gwen added that her son’s hockey kit featuring a one-of-a-kind helmet customised with a St Andrew’s cross was in the BMW, along with her purse.

“It will cost thousands to replace the kit,” she said.

“Connor turns 16 next week and we will have to use his birthday money to get new tools for Brian.”

Police confirmed they are investigating the incident.
