Dundee company admits safety breach after worker’s hand was crushed

A Dundee laminate fabrication company has admitted a health and safety breach that left an employee with a serious hand injury.
Lam-Art (Dundee) Ltd worker James Doig’s right hand was crushed as he checked to see whether a veneer press being operated by colleague Alan Lundie was heating correctly at the company’s Liff Road premises last December.
Court papers state that Mr Doig’s hand was “crushed to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment.”
The company admitted a single charge of failing to ensure that all persons using work equipment, namely a veneer press, had adequate health and safety information, in particular the correct procedure of starting and setting up the press and actions to be taken in the event of the press not heating up.
The case was continued until January 7 for a full narration of the facts in the case.
