Shift manager Philip Dunning from Boness, West Lothian, scooped £7 million in the National Lottery celebrates at Inchyra Hotel in Grangemouth. April 28 2015.

The latest lottery jackpot winner only found out he had scooped almost £8 million when a friend phoned to say she saw his numbers come up.

Philip Dunning, 44, and his partner, Gina Meikle, 45, have played the same Lotto numbers every week since they met 11 years ago.

The couple did not watch Saturday’s draw but friend Sandra Easton, 45, had checked for them and called to reveal they had won £7,864,529.

Mr Dunning, a shift manager from Bo’ness, near Falkirk, said a new car and a house were the first items on their shopping list.

He said: “Gina and I had decided on an early night because we were both due in at work on the Sunday. So, when the phone started ringing at 9.30pm we got quite annoyed.

“The next thing I heard was Gina shouting that we’d won the lottery because Sandra had checked our numbers for us on the TV.

“Neither of us slept that night. We just sat awake waiting for the numbers to appear online.

“It still hasn’t sunk in yet. We can’t believe that this has happened to us. It’s life-changing and we can’t wait to start enjoying ourselves.”

When asked what they would spend their winnings on, Mr Dunning added: “We’re definitely going to upgrade the 03 plate Astra and buy a new house.

“We don’t exactly know which car we want or which house we’d like to buy, but they’re first on our list.”

The couple bought their winning ticket from the Newtown post office in Bo’ness and the winning numbers were 4, 11, 27, 28, 30 and 49. The bonus ball was 47.
