Iain Davidson hopes following in the footsteps of Ryan Giggs and enjoying regular yoga sessions can help Raith Rovers’ push for a play-off place as the season enters the home stretch.
The Stark’s Park squad aid their recovery on a Monday morning with classes in the traditional Hindu discipline.
And Davidson believes the Kirkcaldy outfit can reap the benefits as they bid to cling on to fourth spot in the Championship.
Ray McKinnon’s men host Queen of the South tonight enjoying a four point advantage over the visitors following Saturday’s 4-3 triumph over St Mirren.
Davidson saidd: “Anything that helps to recover a bit quicker is good – and probably as you get older you need it more.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever done it but it’s always good to try new things and I’ve definitely felt the benefits from it.
“One of the most-decorated players in the history of the English game, Ryan Giggs, swears by it and he said it helped to prolong his career.
“So, anything that helps, I don’t mind doing it.
“It’s just mainly stretching – all types of stretching, your lower body, and breathing techniques, things like that.
“It’s new to me but I quite enjoy it and the boys are buying into it as well.
“Anything that gives you that one or two per cent, that can give you that little edge over your opponent, is great.”
Davidson, who started his career as a trainee at Sunderland, returned to Raith last summer after three years away with Dundee and has now played over 300 games for the club following his previous eight-year stint with his hometown team.
And the midfielder, who has been deployed mostly as a central defender this season, is thrilled to be involved in the chase for a promotion play-off berth this term.
He added: “The main focus is to try and get that fourth spot, which gives you something to look forward to when you come in every day knowing that there’s something to aim for.
“It’s a good changing room, a good squad of players, the gaffer’s a good lad and it’s a good place to be.
“Winning games obviously helps as well. We went through a bad spell there through the winter, which is when we always seem to struggle.
“But if we can get that fourth spot then it would be a great achievement.”
