Police concerned for metal thief after electrical cables ‘exploded’ during raid in Fife
ByJonathan Watson
A metal thief may have sustained serious injuries while trying to steal copper cable from a Fife power plant.
Live electrical cables are thought to have “exploded” at Westfield Power Plant near Cardenden, as the thief attempted to make off with the material last Saturday night.
The incident is believed to have happened at around 10pm after security staff became aware of a breach.
While the heist proved unsuccessful, police say they have real concerns for the health of the perpetrator.
Community Sergeant Kenny Greig said: “Although we are keen to trace the person responsible we are also concerned for that person as they may have sustained an injury whilst trying to cut the live cables.
“I would ask anybody who is involved to urgently seek medical attention and put their health before fear of being caught for this crime.
“I would advise anybody who is thinking of committing a similar crime to think again as ultimately being seriously injured or worse is a real possibility and is simply not worth the risk.”
