Kirkcaldy firefighter Stevie McCrorie is hoping for a second blaze of glory when he appears on BBC One’s The Voice tonight.

Bookies’ favourite to win the talent contest, Stevie will be seen fighting for his place on Ricky Wilson’s team in the Battles.

He wowed the judges when he belted out Kodaline’s All I Want in his blind audition screened in January prompting all four judges to turn round for him.

Ahead of tonight’s show, which was recorded in November, he said: “I’m pretty nervous. I’ve not seen the performance as such and I’m hoping I represent myself as well as I did in my blind audition.

“I can’t even remember singing. I go into a place when I’m signing and I blank out.

“I was just trying to perform the best I could for the crowd, so I hope it’s good especially when I set the precedent in my blind audition.”

Father-of-one Stevie, 29, a member of Kirkcaldy Fire Station’s Blue Watch, will be watching with friends and family, including wife Amy, at the golf club in his home town of Alva, Clackmannanshire.

Fellow firefighters who entered him for the fourth series will be glued to their screens, eager to see if Stevie makes it to the next round, the Knockouts.

Stevie said: “They’re really excited. It’s been a long time for everyone who has been supporting me. I’m so glad the support has stayed the way it has and the time has come for me to be back on TV.”

Since his audition, Stevie who has had some success as a musician performing under the names of Mopp and Stevie and The Moon has built up quite a fan base.

He has been enjoying his new celebrity status, having been on the red carpet at the Fifty Shades of Grey premiere in London and performing at Glasgow’s O2 Academy with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers.

Viewers will see him sing Demons by Imagine Dragons with Tim Arnold, as the pair compete to stay on Team Ricky.

Stevie said: “I was happy when I was told what song we would be singing, as I like it. It’s similar to the type of music I would perform, anyway.”

He and Tim became good friends as they prepared for the showdown and went out in London together. Stevie said: “It was great to get to know him; he’s a really nice guy. It was bittersweet when I had to go into the battle against him but I’m there to win so I didn’t let that get to me.”

In tonight’s show contestants sing in pairs and the coaches Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky and fellow judges Rita Ora, Tom Jones and Will.I.Am choose who to keep on their team. The losing artists can be stolen by other coaches.
