Fife Council has insisted it is fully committed to improving transport links in Levenmouth.
Council leader David Ross met members of Levenmouth Rail Campaign (LMRC) in a bid to allay concerns and confirm it is behind the project. The meeting followed fears raised last week by LMRC secretary Allen Armstrong that the local authority was ambivalent towards the project and had deliberately excluded the group.
Mr Ross said: “LMRC have been a key consultee throughout the STAG (Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance) process and their input is very much welcomed by Fife Council.
“We have enjoyed a good working relationship with the group and we’re continuing to support them by funding the STAG, providing support for a consultant and providing support via the local office.
“This project is about partnership working and ultimately everyone wants the same thing, to reopen the rail link.”
Mr Ross said the STAG study was ongoing and added: “At this stage of the study, the reinstatement of a rail link to Levenmouth is a key option being considered.
“The next stage will be open to consultation by the public, local interest groups, local councillors and stakeholders including Transport Scotland.”
LMRC chairperson Eugene Clarke welcomed the meeting with the council.
“We will now be consulting on the main options with the community on October 9 and 10 and I really want to encourage as many people as possible to take part and give us your views,” she said.
On Friday, consultations will be at Leven bus station, from 2 to 7pm, and at Kirkland High School, from 5.30 to 7pm.
On Saturday, they will be at Leven bus station, from 11am to 3pm, and Methil library, from 11am to 1.30pm.
