George Sinclair, a prominent figure in football in Dundee, has died at the age of 53.
The Post Office health and safety area manager suffered a heart attack on Sunday morning.
Manager of the Dundee & Angus College amateur teams, he had been involved in the game since he was taken on as a youngster by Arbroath FC.
Son George Jr, 24, who played under his father for seven years at D&A, said: “He was a brilliant family man, always very committed and put us first.
“To me as well, my dad was also my best friend so it was an especially sad day for me. He was my mum’s best friend as well.
“Although he is such a sad loss to our friends and family, we are extremely proud of the person he was and it was such a privilege to have had him as part of our lives.”
Passionate about local football and a great advocate of the grassroots game, he also leaves wife Ann, daughters Megan, 20, and Joanne, 26, and grandchildren.
George, who lived in Maryfield, attended St Joseph’s Primary and St Saviour’s High and went on to work for the Post Office.
D&A College club president Brian Snee said: “He has been at the centre of the club for many, many years.
“He’s been manager, both of the first team and the second team, and he has helped coach for a long, long time.
“George was very committed. It is a very sad loss and he will be sorely missed. He was very passionate about football.
“George really enjoyed working with the lads and being involved. He used to play Sunday morning football and was manager at Violet Juniors.
“He’s been involved all over. He was a real character in junior football circles and everybody knew his face. He was a huge character.”
