04/07/13 DUNDEE UTD TRAINING ST ANDREWS Dundee Utd manager Jackie McNamara prepares his squad for the beginning of the season.

Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara is hoping the club can round off their pre-season road trip with a morale-boosting victory.

The United players may have left Germany fitter than when they arrived last week but defeats against 1FC Union and Energie Cottbus were far from the ideal preparation for the new campaign.

The Tangerines are preparing to play their third friendly of the summer against Spanish side San Roque tonight and McNamara is seeking signs of improvement.

“In the first few games, the results aren’t really important and it’s about getting as many players as possible involved and making sure they get the legs working.

“The last thing you want in these games is to be against weak opposition who you are battering, then the pace of the game isn’t good and the players don’t get any real benefit from it.”

McNamara is expected to give most of his squad a run-out, with new captain Sean Dillon in line for a return following ankle surgery.

Michael Gardyne trained on Thursday and could also feature this evening despite a groin problem.

Tonight’s fixture could, however, be more important for the trialists as they hope to secure a deal at Tannadice.

Graham Carey, Nadir Ciftci and Jean-Yves Koue Niate have all been training with United this week and McNamara says he will make a decision on the trio after this evening’s fixture.

He continued: “We’ve also got two games when we get back, away to Dunfermline on the Wednesday and away to Wigan on the Saturday, so between those two games we’ll be building up for the Partick game on August 2.”
