‘Callous and cruel’ elderly man attacked and robbed at home in Glenrothes
ByThe Courier Reporter
An elderly Glenrothes man has been attacked and robbed in his own home.
Officers are appealing for witnesses to the robbery, which took place in Gifford Court on Monday night.
Police say a woman called at several addresses in the area falsely claiming to be seeking sponsorship and was invited into the 89-year-old victim’s home.
It is understood she then punched the man and robbed him of his wallet and its contents.
Sergeant Graham Ross, of the Glenrothes Community Investigation Unit, said: “This was a particularly callous and cruel attack on a vulnerable man within his own home.
“I would encourage anyone who saw this woman or has any information about this matter to come forward.”
The woman, who was in the area between 7.30pm and 10.30pm, is described as 5ft 6in, slim, aged between 25-35 and has brown shoulder length hair. She had distinctive red sores on her arms and hands.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or contact Police Scotland Fife Division through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
