An injured cat was reunited with her owners after hundreds of people shared her picture on Facebook.

London was taken to Tay Valley Vets in Perth after apparently being hit by a car. The year-old tabby was badly injured and required surgery to remove a damaged eye and wire a broken jaw together.

However, as she was not micro-chipped the practice was none the wiser as to the identity of her owner and launched a Facebook appeal to get her home.

Within 24 hours the online community had shared London’s image more than 500 times and helped reunite London with owner Tracy Lamond.

The 29-year-old said she had been alerted to the Facebook post by a friend.

She said: “She was on Tay Valley Vet’s Facebook page and saw the picture. She called me at 1am and said there was a picture of a kitten and she thought it was London.

“The next day the vet’s said to come in and it was her. We thought we wouldn’t get her back.

“Tay Valley Vets have treated London so well. We are so glad to have her back and she will be even more spoilt than before.”

Call centre worker Ms Lamond said that the final bill for London’s treatment was likely to top £750, although a donation of £100 has been made by Tay Valley Cat Welfare.

London, who is normally kept indoors, had escaped from Ms Lamond’s Bridge of Earn home at 2pm on February 3. Within hours she had been hit by a car and was rushed to Tay Valley Vets by a kind-hearted stranger who found her lying by the road.

Ms Lamond said: “We were quite upset that someone had hit her with their car and just driven off, because she was in a really bad way.”

Kim Graham, the vet who looked after the cat, said: “We put a picture of her on to Facebook on Monday, and by Tuesday had reunited her with Tracy, her owner.

“She’s a lovely wee cat, very friendly. She’s been through a lot in the last few weeks, but it’s great that this story has a happy ending.”
