Naomi Campbell has said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are “rewriting history” following news the couple will visit Africa.

Britain’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Nigel Casey, has appeared to confirm that Prince Harry and Meghan will embark on a trip to the continent, where they will reportedly visit South Africa, Botswana, Angola and Malawi.

Supermodel Campbell told ITV’s Lorraine she was “ecstatic” about the news, adding: “I think Prince Harry and the Duchess Meghan Markle are doing … they’re rewriting history.

“They have no idea what they’re going to do for the African continent. They’re going to love it, they’re going to find such peace there, little Archie’s going to love it.”

She added: “I loved their [Harry and William’s] mother, she was amazing, and she loved Africa. And granddad, President Mandela, loved Princess Diana very much.”

Diana, Princess of Wales famously walked through a cleared minefield in Angola to highlight the plight of those maimed by military munitions.

The princess never saw her work to help outlaw landmines come to fruition as she died before the international treaty to ban the military weapons was signed in 1997, a few months after she was killed in a Paris car crash.

Campbell also spoke of attending the Duke of Cambridge’s 13th birthday party, which saw supermodels including Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Christy Turlington surprising him at afternoon tea.

She said: “I do remember that. He was so sweet, he was blushing, he came home from school to find these women in his home. He was adorable.

“Princess Diana was so gracious. I remember she opened the front door. All our drivers thought they were going to collapse. So hands-on.”
