Paolo Nutini may have made his name singing about new shoes but it’s hard to believe any Scot deserves a pair more than Dunfermline FC legend Jim Leishman.

Jim has taken possession of much-needed new walking boots as he prepares to undertake another gruelling task to raise money for a charity set up in memory of his late wife Mary.

He wore out his previous pair and needed to call in substitutes as he prepares for a climb up remote Munro Beinn Na Lap in the west Highlands in September.

The walk is the latest in a long line of high-profile events that have included an 80-mile walk and a celebrity golf tournament in Spain.

Jim has also tackled the Fife Coastal Path and a fire walk at Dunfermline FC’s East End Park.

Through the efforts, more than £250,000 has been raised for the Mary Leishman Foundation.

Jim’s wife died after a brave battle against cancer in February of last year.

He said, “Dunfermline Heritage Trust have organised a Climb for Mary on Sunday, September 12, with all proceeds going to the foundation and I’m happy I’ll have boots fit for that task.

“I have literally worn them out during all the walking I’ve done recently and all they’re good for now is a raffle prize after the event.”

A coach provided free by Stagecoach will pick up walkers in Dunfermline and take them to Tulloch rail station near Spean Bridge.

They will then travel on the west Highland line to Corrour, before tackling Beinn Na Lap.

Successful walkers will be presented with a certificate marking their achievement.

Anyone wanting to take part is urged to register as soon as possible. A £25 fee is required plus a commitment to raise a minimum of £100 for the charity.
