Assurances for customers after collapse of travel agency R-Travel

Bookings made with a Perth travel agency which went into liquidation this week will be honoured.

Staff heard on Wednesday that R-Travel at King James VI Business Centre had gone into liquidation. It is believed up to six staff have lost their jobs.

The internet-based travel agent was part of the Freedom Travel Group the Co-operative’s travel group and arranged holidays mainly in the Mediterranean, Egypt and Florida.

A spokesman said, “As R-Travel was a member of The Freedom Travel Group, we will honour all existing bookings. Customers should contact us on 0800 983 9000.”

The firm’s number went unanswered and its website was unavailable but previously stated, “Our prices are the very best in the industry. We believe that successful holidays are much more than cheap flights and places to stay.

“They are about giving you the reliability, personal service and peace of mind that allows you to really relax during your precious time away.”

An Association of British Travel Agents spokeswoman said, “The branch has been closed and bookings will be transferred to the head office of the Freedom Travel Group.”
