Dundee-based cash machine software solutions group i-design has secured a new contract which will see it break into the Canadian market for the first time.

The company which employs around 30 staff at its headquarters at City Quay has developed two software platforms for ATMs that allow businesses to advertise to customers while they make cash transactions.

The new multi-year agreement will see the firm’s latest generation software package joono rolled out across the bank’s Canadian cash machine network.

The deal comes just months after US-based Cardtronics acquired a licence to incorporate joono on its global ATM portfolio and banking giant Barclays also signed up.

Last month, i-design directors said the company was on track to make its first pre-tax profit ahead of market expectations and sales are expected to reach £3.5m this year.

Chief executive officer Ana Stewart, who grew the company from scratch from a house in Newport, said the new contract was a real boost as the firm looked to expand its global presence.

She said: ”This contract expands our presence in north America significantly, taking i-design’s software into Canada for the first time.

”We are also delighted that this is the first contract win secured via our channel partner, IBM Canada Ltd, and look forward to working together on future opportunities.

”In addition, it is another major contract win for joono and is testimony to the strength of our offering.

”We believe that joono represents an unrivalled digital marketing proposition for banks and we continue to see exciting opportunities both in the UK and internationally for our software.”
