Abertay University conference to explore IP pitfalls

Bosses from some of the world’s top companies are to take part in a major conference at Abertay University.
The line-up at Digital Spark 2011 includes managers from Sony, Google and Universal Music, who will advise how companies in the creative and digital media sectors can protect their intellectual property (IP), such as patents, trademarks and industrial designs.
Dr Margaret Hartnett, from Abertay, warned that companies failing to do so “are putting at risk all their hard work” and IP was the key to their survival.
She said, “Companies must establish an IP strategy to protect their core products and mitigate the risk of litigation and unauthorised copying.”
She added, “By bringing international experts to Abertay University for Digital Spark, we are aiming to break apart those myths and give people really practical advice they can take away and immediately apply.”
