Nature lovers can win one of the country’s most luxurious Easter eggs by spreading the word about local woodlands.

A website has been launched by the Woodland Trust to make it easier to access woods and forests and those who share their experiences can win one of two £500 chocolate eggs.

The site, supported by the Forestry Commission Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage and the People’s Postcode Lottery, identifies almost 14,000 woods in the UK which welcome visitors.

Each wood has its own page with directions on how to find it, as well as information generated by keen woodland visitors.

Woodland Trust Scotland director Carol Evans said, “Sharing personal experiences of the woods we love to visit and what they have to offer will make a real difference to people who have never been before.

“Personal content will hopefully encourage more people to get outside and enjoy the wonders of woodland throughout the seasons.”

Anyone who registers on visitwoods.org.uk and uploads a photograph, wood description or comment before May 6 will be entered into a prize draw.

The 25cm eggs were handcrafted by award-winning chocolatier Paul Wayne Gregory.

He said, “Visitwoods.org.uk makes the beauty of woodland more accessible for everyone and the eggs are a celebration of this and of the arrival of spring.”
