While Raith Rovers have had to wait almost two decades for a cup final to come along, goal hero Calum Elliot has recent experience of lifting silverware.
It was May 20 2012 when Elliot, then playing for Zalgiris Vilnius, was part of the team that clinched the Lithuanian Federation Cup by beating Ekranas in a penalty shoot-out.
Having experienced what it feels like to be a winner on foreign shores, Elliot is desperate to succeed when Rovers take on either Rangers or Stenhousemuir in the Ramsdens Cup final on April 6 at a venue still to be decided.
Elliot, who grabbed two goals as the Kirkcaldy men triumphed 3-0 over Annan Athletic at Stark’s Park in their semi-final on Sunday, said: “All the boys are delighted because getting to the final was what we wanted to achieve when we started out in this competition.
“Now we would love to go on and win it. I did win the cup in Lithuania and it was a great occasion. It was one of those days that was great to experience and be a part of,” added the former Hearts frontman.
“It doesn’t matter who we play in the final as it is going to be a massive occasion for the club whatever the opposition is. It is something to look forward to while we try to continue our league form.”
With the final place secured, Rovers will now put all their focus on the Championship clash against leaders Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park on Saturday.
“That is another massive match for us but we will be ready for it,” said Elliot.
“There are a lot of teams up there challenging and sides will take points off each other along the way. We have to be consistent and if we can do that then we will there or thereabouts.”
Raith Rovers and Cowdenbeath have become the latest clubs to bring their Boxing Day fixture forward from Boxing Day to Saturday December 21. Their move means that only one Championship game, Alloa v Dundee, is now taking place on the original December 26 date.
Three League One fixtures have already moved back five days and four League Two games, however the Premiership has a full card on December 26 as December 21 was already a full day of fixtures in their league season.
