New Arbroath boss brings in former team-mate as assistant

Arbroath's Bobby Linn was named the PFA Scotland League Two Player of the Year on Sunday night.
Arbroath's Bobby Linn was named the PFA Scotland League Two Player of the Year on Sunday night.

Arbroath boss Todd Lumsden has moved swiftly to bring in former Red Lichties striker Steven Hislop as his assistant.

Lumsden was confirmed as the Angus side’s new permanent manager last week after filling in on an interim basis after Allan Moore was sacked.

He has now appointed Hislop as his right-hand man although the striker will honour his playing commitments to junior side Bonnyrigg Rose before focusing all his attention on Arbroath.

Lumsden, whose side face Queen’s Park at Gayfield on Wednesday in the first leg of their promotion play-off semi-final, said: “Steve is still at Bonnyrigg but we are hoping he can come and go to help us prepare for the play-off.

“Bonnyrigg still have a couple of games left and Steve is being loyal to them and wants to play in them. So we will have to see what happens for our second leg on Saturday.

“I have known him since we were players together at Raith Rovers and we have kept in touch.

“He has also been coaching at Bonnyrigg and was first choice to be my assistant. I am delighted he has agreed to join me at Arbroath.”

Lumsden meanwhile praised playmaker Bobby Linn, who has been outstanding for Arbroath this season, something that was recognised by his peers when he was named the PFA Scotland League Two Player of the Year on Sunday night at the awards dinner in Glasgow.

The manager said: “I am absolutely delighted for Bobby. He has been tremendous for us all season and shows real quality on the ball.”
