Explore Export ‘bringing world’ to Scotland

Scotland’s first export roadshow was held at BT Murrayfield yesterday.

More than 250 people from companies all over Scotland attended Explore Export for advice and insight into global business opportunities.

With a population of five million, Scotland’s economic growth and prosperity largely relies on its international competitiveness.

With the Scottish Government’s target to double the value of Scottish Exports by 2017, it is vital that Scottish companies are supported and encouraged to boost their business through international trade.

The event was staged by Scottish Enterprise; Scottish Development International, the international arm of Scotland’s enterprise agencies; and UK Trade & Investment.

Neil Francis, SE’s international operations director, said the event was an overwhelming success.

He said: “As a small country we need to trade beyond our borders.

“There is a huge appetite for Scottish goods and services abroad, but only 15% of Scottish companies currently export,” he said.

“Appointments with our 60 country experts were quickly snapped up, with the most-requested destinations the USA, UAE, Canada, Japan, Germany and China.

“The seminars reinforced the importance of making sure Scottish businesses with export potential are equipped with the information, skills and resources to take Scotland’s products and services to the world.”
