Primary school children at Arbroath will have the opportunity to use a range of bycyles.

Schools across Arbroath are destined to get on their bikes next week when an initiative being run by Angus Cycle Hub and Angus Active Schools kicks into high gear.

Around 2000 young people in primary schools around the Arbroath area will get the opportunity to try various cycling activities and equipment ranging from Penny Farthings and dual control bikes to recumbents.

The project which has been funded by Awards for All.

Scott Francis from Angus Cycle Hub said: “The hope is that by introducing cycling to people at a young age it will be something that they continue to do into adult life.

“It means they can benefit from the obvious health, social and environmental benefits of cycling.”

Angus Cycle Hub is also hoping to get around 300 young people through Bikeability level one training which is part of the cycling proficiency test.

The activity programme, which is being joinly run with Get Cycling Ltd, will visit Warddykes, Hayshead, Friockheim, Ladyloan and Muirfield primary schools starting from Monday.
